What Can I Do?

Protest the implementation of assisted suicide

We will be sponsoring two supportive care demonstrations advocating for improved end of life care and protesting the legalization of physician-assisted suicide in Washington State.

Join us Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Washington State Department of Health between 12 noon and 1:00 pm on the sidewalk in front of DOH at 101 Israel Road SE in Tumwater.

A second protest is set for Thursday, March 5, 2009 - the day the assisted suicide law officially goes into effect - at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, between 12 noon and 1:00 pm, on the sidewalk near the front of the hospital at 1959 N.E. Pacific Street.

Get involved.

Many of you have contacted us asking how to keep your local doctors' offices, hospitals and nursing homes as safe harbors from assisted suicide. In response, we've crafted a few sample letters for you to send to doctors, hospitals and nursing homes. The situation is urgent: Your own doctor or healthcare facility may at this moment be considering whether to take part in assisted suicide. Please, take a moment to write a letter. Read sample letters.

Make your voice heard in your local community! Many physicians and healthcare facilities don't know that Section 19 of Initiative 1000 allows them to exercise their right to refrain from involvement in physician-assisted suicide. Hospital and nursing home boards are meeting this month to determine policies regarding assisted suicide, so the time to contact them is RIGHT NOW.
