"We believe physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompatible with the role of physicians as healers. Patients put their trust in physicians and that bond of trust would be irrevocably harmed by the provisions of this dangerous initiative. ...The initiative is a dangerous distraction from symptom-directed end-of-life care that provides comfort for dying patients and their families. Our focus should remain on caring for terminally ill patients and should never shift toward helping them kill themselves."

Who Opposes Initiative 1000?

In Washington, the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide has formed to combat I-1000, the assisted suicide initiative that is being promoted for the 2008 ballot. Tens of thousands of Washingtonians have joined together with the Coalition Against Assisted Suicide to oppose Initiative 1000.

Women and men across this state, caregivers, families, hospice care providers, senior citizens, people with disabilities, physicians and nurses, young adults and people of faith are working together to get out the word in their neighborhoods and communities about the dangers of I-1000.

The following is a partial list of a few of those individuals and organizations. Doctors Opposed to I-1000

The Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) opposes Initiative-1000, the measure to legalize physician-assisted suicide in Washington state. (See their press release here).
